Our sensory room with fibre optics and bubble towers provides relaxation and stimulation

Beaconville focuses on the individual and their experience of dementia, and aims to offer as much stimulation as possible. Therapeutic design technology offers clients the opportunity to interact in the specially-built sensory room with fibre optics and bubble towers. The massage chair is a firm favourite providing relaxation and stimulation.

The home benefits from having a full-time activities co-ordinator, who appreciated the importance of understanding a client's history and how this helps to provide meaningful activity based on past lifestyles, interests and beliefs. They work closely with clients, family and staff to enable the opportunity to not only be entertained but engaged. One-to-one sessions are planned and in this way Beaconville focuses on each clients' own individuality and orientation.

Regular visits from local musicians are firm favourites with clients. We also have an online computer for our residents with a specially-sourced large type keyboard.

Beaconville has the added benefit of two large lounges and a sunny garden room, so there is always a peaceful spot to sit for those not taking part.

It is recognised that clients with dementia are helped tremendously when their own living space is defined; therefore doors to all bedrooms are in primary colours with individual letterboxes and door knockers.

All meals are freshly cooked on the day using locally sourced produce where possible. The focus is on nutrition and quality. Cooked breakfasts are available on special request.

The activities are also praiseworthy. It's pleasing to hear of my mother, who has advanced dementia, being able to enjoy a hand massage, listen to music, and do a little flower arranging. It makes a bleak situation into a more rewarding one.
